Jumping into June with Sport Romance

“A drink throw so good, it’s gone viral”

This was a sports romance on the cusp of ticking all the boxes.

I appreciated the premise of the story. I don’t entirely agree with the advertisement of this as a enemies to lovers story, I think this story fits different romance tropes better – for example, force proximity and one bed (these tropes added a fun dynamic between the characters).

For the characters, I would have loved to have seen a deeper development of them overall. I found that many of the characters had a good motivation behind them and a good flow in their arc, but I found it harder to connect to the main female character. Unfortunately I felt that she was lacking development in some scenes and therefore she wasn’t as defined as other characters. I would have loved to have gotten more from her character overall. The main male character I did enjoy, I liked that there were different motivations and layers to his character, out of the romantic leads I think that he was definitely the highlight.

Whilst I understand the potential need for the prologue, I think that the set up of the story was more successful after it. The rest of the book’s pacing and storytelling was good, I would have preferred to have more scenes giving depth to the story as a sports romance but I understand that the romance was the main focus point.

Overall, I would have loved to have seen more character development but a fun, cute romance!

Thank you to Head of Zeus for an early copy!
